International Week 2011 - Europe was a guest in Graz

erstellt am 23. März 2011

Young Musicians from The Hague and Bucharest.

In March the University for Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) went international:

‘International Week’, 21st - 24th March, brought young musicians from 2 of our partner universities in The Hague and Bucharest to the Styrian capital.

The annual visit from foreign Music Universities – in which so far 70 cities have been involved – has been going since 1974. Rector Georg Schulz is delighted about the musical exchange program, “Most of all, the opportunity for the guests to make music with our orchestra gives the young people a chance to learn from each other and in doing this they widen their horizons”.

The International Week program included chamber concerts on the first three evenings in the ‘Florentinersaal’ in Palais Meran. The week was completed by an orchestra concert in ‘Stefaniensaal’ whereby soloists from the guest institutions performed with the KUG orchestra to the public of Graz. This year there were works by Schumman, Dvořák and Haydn.

‘International Week’: 21st-24th March at the University for Music and Performing Arts featured:

  • Chamber concerts from 21st – 23rd March

21st March – Graz, 22nd March – The Hague, 23rd March – Bucharest

  • Final concert on 24th March at 19.45 in Stefaniensaal, featured works by Robert Schumman : piano concerto A minor op. 54

Antonìn Dvořák: Cello concerto B minor op. 104

Joseph Haydn: London Symphony D major Hob. I:104 ‘Salomon’

The KUG Orchestra played, as well as the following soloists: Iris HOND, piano (The Hague), Marian MIRCEA, cello (Bucharest).

Conductors: Chin-Chao LIN, Antanina KALECHYTS and Adolf HENNIG

The final ‘International Week’ concert - which was part of the subscription series - was presented by the Society of Friends of the KUG.
