The entrance exam, which usually takes place in September at the Institute 17 ("IEM") consists of the following parts:

1. Written Aural Test 1 (duration of this Seashore test: approx. 40 minutes):

In this part are tested differential thresholds for frequency, intensity, tone length, the ability to differentiate timbre, and pitch and rhythm memory by comparing pairs of sound samples.

Here you can find a test example.

2. Written Aural Test 2 (duration: approx. 40 minutes):

This includes a melody and rhythm dictation and the recognition of modes, metres, triads and instruments. Furthermore, errors in a printed score of a musical example are to be detected. All examples are played several times.

Here you can find a test example.

3. Written Music Theory Test (duration: approx. 40 minutes)

This tests knowledge of music theory, such as the formation of intervals, formation of scales including triads belonging to the scale, scale analysis, chord inversions and rhythmic notation.

Here you can find a test example.

Please mind: After passing the entrance exam you are not automatically admitted to the Master´s Programme – doing the enrolment is still necessary then! As the Master´s Programme Electrical Engineering and Audio Engineering is set up as an inter-university Degree Programme of the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), basically after passing the entrance exam you can decide to do the enrolment personally either at KUG or at TU Graz (Note: There are different admission periods at the two universities! After passing the entrance exam, the results are known as well at KUG as at TU Graz. After you have done the admission to one of the two universities there will be an automatically exchange of data between them, which means that you will be reported at the other university automatically. Note that this data exchange will happen only once a week. If you wish to speed up this process, you have to contact the Registrar´s Office by submitting your enrolment log from the other university):
