Training courses:

Pick-up courses, summer courses etc.

The application deadlines and admission procedures can be found in the respective course descriptions:

The university course “EMP” expands and deepens the music pedagogic know-how of the participants in theory and practice in the course of eight modules. In two semesters, diverse offers of materials, practice and play ideas in the sense of a holistic oriented music pedagogy are available and presented.

The participants are also encouraged by a selected team of coaches to open up spaces for their own pedagogical practice in which the abilities of children in their handling of voice, body and instruments are discovered, awakened and promoted.

Further information

The University Course for Music Therapy ("Grazer Ausbildung Musiktherapie" aka “GRAMUTH”) is a four-year interuniversity course in music therapy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in cooperation with the Medical University of Graz and the University of Graz. The course is based on a humanistic-anthropological understanding of health and disease and combines genuinely music therapy and musical-artistic with medical psychology and psychotherapeutic concepts on the basis of a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual background.

The course promotes a specific professional identity of a music therapist. The participants acquire basic music therapy skills that can be used in various psychosocial working areas and occupational fields. Music therapy is regulated by law as an independent form of therapy. It includes the conscious and planned treatment of people, in particular with emotional, somatic, intellectual or social behavioral disorders and conditions of suffering. The goal is to use musical means in a therapeutic relationship to

1. prevent, mitigate or eliminate symptoms or
2. to change the behavior and attitudes requiring treatment or
3. to promote, maintain or restore the development, maturation and health of the person being treated (see MuthG, 2008).

The extra-occupational course is offered every two years and concludes with the certificate "Academic Certified Graduate of the Inter-University Course Music Therapy". The degree entitles to entry in the legal music therapist list as co-responsible music therapist; this is also equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree and thus opens up the possibility of continuing a Master's Programme, e.g. at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems
