The promotion of young artists and the creation of new musical works is a central concern of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG). This can be seen prominently and internationally in the organization of international competitions, such as the Johann-Joseph-Fux Opera Composition Competition, the Anna Kull International Cello Competition, which was organized for the first time in February 2020, or the Chamber Music Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music".

In connection with the 11th International Chamber Music Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" in 2021, the KUG launched a global composition competition for contemporary compositions for Trio for Voice Piano, Violin and Violoncello in 2020. This pursues the determined goal of creating new works for this chamber music genre. A total of 166 registrations from 45 nations were received. 152 composers from 45 nations have now been admitted to participate. The laureate expects prize money of 5,000 euros as well as the premiere in the 11th International Chamber Music Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" in February 2021.

The international jury, chaired by pianist and KUG professor Chia Chou, is made up of renowned composers and instrumentalists. The public award ceremony will take place as part of the "Schubert und Moderne" competition in February 2021 in Graz.
